services

Let's talk about the

consultation you need.

Bernard Harrison and Friends approaches the business of consulting for wildlife attractions and institutions through a uniquely modular lens. While we are able to manage a project from start to end, our services are scalable and can be tailored to the specific needs of the client or project.

01

Conceptual Planning

We start off with putting together a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team that will spend about five days on-site for a BH&F Creative Design Workshop. Clients may join in person or through a video call. Highly interactive and collaborative to generate refreshingly lateral and creative ideas, the BH&F Creative Workshop goes through brainstorming sessions on project analysis, storyline generation, space allocation, concept design and animal collection planning.

02

Master Planning

With the conceptual plan in hand, we develop the Master Plan in collaboration with the client. This involves a further in-depth analysis of the site’s topographical features together with exact placements of animal exhibits, visitor facilities, utility networks and service areas on an appropriately scaled plan. All planning alternatives are carefully explored again together with opportunities and constraints, the recommended animal collection, and other areas of design, education and conservation, environmental and engineering requirements.

The design process involves three stages of concept, schematic and detailed design for each animal exhibit, service and public building. These designs are co-developed with the client’s locally appointed landscape architects, and design team, to be aligned with the local codes of practice, material and construction costs, required accreditation and licensing.

04

Facility Management

When the zoo or wildlife facility has been developed, clients have the option of engaging us as an independent operator or management agent to manage all aspects of park operations.

05

Commissioning, Training & Animal Presentations

When the animals arrive, we will give our expert counsel on acclimatizing newly arrived animals, introducing them to their exhibits, specialized animal husbandry, and specialized training of the zoo staff in animal management, zoo operations, horticulture and ground maintenance. Finally, we are able to train presenters and animals to deliver educational and naturalistic presentations to visitors.

Construction, documentation

& observation

All construction documents drawn up by the client’s appointed local design team are examined and commented upon by the BH&F Design Team. We also hold periodic ‘site observation visits’ to discuss the project’s progress with the client’s project manager and solve usual site problems that always arise.
